‘KICK OUT NETANYAHU’: 5 Rivals Forge ‘Anti-Bibi’ Pact Ahead Of Crucial Israel Election

Benjamin Netanyahu is facing a coordinated challenge ahead of Israel’s October 27 Knesset election, after five major opposition leaders agreed to work together in an effort to replace his government. Yair Lapid, Gadi Eisenkot, Naftali Bennett, Avigdor Lieberman and Yair Golan signed an agreement to coordinate their campaigns, boost voter turnout and cooperate after the election. The pact also commits the leaders to avoid attacking one another during the campaign. The opposition leaders have not yet agreed on who would become prime minister if they succeed. That decision is being left until after the vote, allowing the alliance to focus first on winning enough seats to form a government. Israel’s Knesset has 120 seats, meaning 61 are required for a governing majority. Recent polling has shown both major blocs below that threshold, making coalition-building a central issue in the election. Netanyahu has criticised the opposition alliance, while his rivals are presenting cooperation as their shared route to forming an alternative government.
