Netanyahu’s fiery UN speech has triggered another diplomatic clash with Turkey. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attacked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling him a “tyrant” and accusing Turkey of hosting Hamas leaders. Ankara has now rejected the allegations as “baseless,” accusing Netanyahu of using the UN podium to attack Turkey while deflecting attention from the Gaza war and international legal proceedings.
The confrontation unfolded as dozens of diplomats reportedly walked out of Netanyahu’s address, while others jeered and booed inside the UN General Assembly chamber. Turkey says Netanyahu’s remarks are incompatible with the UN’s ideals of peace, law and dialogue.
