Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has framed next month’s election as a battle against what he called “fascism, hypocrisy and lies,” while sharply rejecting any attempt by Donald Trump to influence Brazil’s political direction.

Speaking in Rio de Janeiro, Lula tied his sovereignty message to Brazil’s critical minerals and rare-earth reserves, asking why Brazilians fought for democracy “for Trump to tell us what to do?” Polling cited by Bloomberg and AtlasIntel shows Lula and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro statistically tied in a potential runoff.
