EU Eyes Southeast Asia Trade Push As Trump Policies Drive Supply Chain Shift

The European Union is accelerating its trade push into Southeast Asia, closing in on a series of bilateral deals with ASEAN countries. Brussels already has free trade agreements with Singapore and Vietnam, while negotiations with Indonesia have concluded and deals with other ASEAN members are advancing.
Why the rush? Southeast Asia is increasingly central to global supply chains for semiconductors, electronics, electric vehicles and batteries. The region is also attracting investment in data centres, renewable energy and digital services. As European companies diversify production and supply chains, ASEAN is becoming a more important economic partner. The shift also comes amid changing global trade dynamics and uncertainty surrounding US trade policy.
