Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has spoken to the media before heading to the UN General Assembly in New York, saying Iran has been at the negotiating table several times and signed agreements, but the world has seen how easily those commitments were violated. He said that if the world wants security and peace, the rights of people and nations must be respected and people cannot be forced into submission through the use of force. Pezeshkian pointed to what he described as crimes in Gaza, Syria, Yemen and Iran, asking whether “innocent school children in Meyaneh” and people in Lamerd were terrorists.
Meanwhile, the US is planning to roll out a new batch of sweeping sanctions on Iranian commercial aviation from Wednesday, with Iranian authorities warning that the measures will affect ordinary people. Mahan Airlines flights to Iraq and Turkiye have been suspended, while other Iranian airlines continue to operate flights to Turkiye for now.
