It Finally Drives! Now I’ve 3D Designed & Printed My Dream Engine Bay | Torana ReSSurXion

1,265 days after crashing my Torana, it finally moves under its own power again.

But getting the RSSX back outside also highlighted the next part of the build that needs some serious attention - the engine bay.

In this episode I’m taking you through the complete design process behind my new custom engine bay setup. I 3D scan the Holden 355 and engine bay, bring everything into Blender, then design an integrated cold-air intake, bonnet scoop, custom air-cleaner base and VT Holden-inspired engine cover.

The goal is to make the whole setup work as one system - feeding cold air from the rear cowl, extracting heat from the front of the scoop, packaging everything neatly around the engine, and still making it look like something Holden could have designed themselves.

I also run through the airflow thinking behind the 15-inch filtered lid, explore a heap of different engine-bay colour and finish combinations in KeyShot, and finally 3D print everything at full scale to see whether the design actually works on the real car.

I also fit the new Reid Speed serpentine pulley kit, which is another big step towards giving the Holden V8 the cleaner, more modern OEM+ look I’m chasing.

The printed parts in this episode are still prototypes. The final plan is to use materials better suited to their individual jobs, including PA12-CF nylon around the intake/carb base, ASA-CF for the engine cover, and ASA for the bonnet scoop.

And now I want to hear from you:

Which engine-bay finish would you choose?

Gloss orange?
Satin orange?
Gloss black?
Satin black?
Satin charcoal?

And what do you think of the finished intake and engine-cover design?

The next major goal is getting the RSSX properly back on the road, ironing out the bugs, then pulling it apart again to finish the engine bay and updated Holden 355 package.

Huge thanks to everyone following the build.

Dream it. Visualise it. Build it.
