Climatologist Jack Hall has spent years warning that dramatic changes in the Earth's climate could trigger a catastrophic new ice age. When his predictions suddenly begin coming true, violent storms erupt across the Northern Hemisphere, temperatures collapse, and entire cities are overwhelmed by unprecedented weather.
While governments struggle to respond to the rapidly developing disaster, Jack learns that his teenage son Sam is trapped in New York City. Sam and his friends have taken shelter inside the New York Public Library after a massive flood devastates Manhattan, but the freezing temperatures outside are becoming increasingly deadly.
Unable to accept that his son may be lost, Jack begins a dangerous journey north from Washington, D.C. Together with a small group of companions, he travels through a frozen landscape where abandoned cities, deep snow, and extreme cold make every step a fight for survival.
Inside the library, Sam and the other survivors must find food, warmth, and medicine while waiting for help. As the storm continues to transform the world around them, father and son are separated by hundreds of miles of frozen wilderness — and Jack knows he may have only one chance to reach him.
