A University of Ottawa student is working to address the under-representation of women in healthcare leadership through her 'Learn 2 Lead Girls' project. Founder Heeva Torabi recently hosted an event at the university's Skills and Simulation Centre for 30 female students from six different Ottawa-area high schools. The program allows girls to get hands-on experience with medical equipment, learn new skills in workshops, and hear directly from female leaders, including an orthopaedic surgeon and a surgical oncologist. Torabi hopes the initiative will empower young women to strive toward their full potential and highlight the wide range of career paths available in medicine.
