Farmers rally against high-speed rail
Hundreds of farmers and residents gathered in Rigaud, Que., to push back against a proposed high-speed rail line between Toronto and Quebec City. CTV's Natalie van Rooy reports that local farmer Karine Bercier says having 3,000 acres of her family land within the corridor threatens the viability of their operations. The project by Alto aims to connect major economic centres, but Carleton University associate professor Ian Lee argues the company has underestimated capital costs and overestimated ridership. Conservative Party of Quebec Leader Éric Duhaime also spoke against the plan, while Prescott-Russell’s council previously voted to refuse Alto access to county land.
