Italy is moving warships toward the Bab al-Mandeb Strait to protect its commercial vessels as tensions escalate around the Red Sea. Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto says Rome has the capability to secure the vital shipping route and will not wait for a joint European Union decision.

The move comes amid growing concerns over Houthi control along Yemen’s western Red Sea coast and the potential impact on global trade, energy shipments and supply chains.
