South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has ruled out deploying troops or military assets to the Middle East in connection with the ongoing US-Iran war, saying Seoul will not engage in the conflict. However, he said South Korea is considering limited measures to protect its merchant vessels, oil routes and citizens amid growing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz. The decision comes after reported US pressure on Seoul to play a more active role in safeguarding navigation. Lee also said a possible meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un could take place in the coming months, although he stressed that no such summit was certain.
