Several Carleton University humanities professors are taking an old-school approach to teaching by banning phones, laptops and AI in their classrooms. CTV's Peter Szperling reports that students must rely on handwritten notes, pencils and physical textbooks. Professor Shawna Dolansky says her goal is to help students open their minds and understand different perspectives, a skill better developed without screens. Associate professor Chris Jensen notes that banning technology also removes the temptation to use AI tools like ChatGPT for take-home assignments, which students say has been a welcome change.
