Forestry mulching usually brings to mind a high-flow skid steer and a $150,000+ setup, but there may be a much cheaper way to get into this kind of work.
In this video I’m using my LS tractor and Baumalight MP560 mulcher to clear roughly an acre of overgrown brush, saplings, and small trees. This was about the perfect material for this machine — thick, bushy growth that the mulcher could grab, hold, and process right down close to ground level.
One of the biggest advantages of mulching compared to simply cutting everything down is the cleanup. Instead of ending up with a massive brush pile that has to be moved or burned, the material gets processed and spread back across the ground as you work.
We also compare the finished result to what a traditional brush hog leaves behind, and I talk about why this tractor setup makes a lot of sense for someone looking to get into brush clearing without immediately spending the money on a high-flow skid steer and forestry head.
This setup certainly has its limits, and I did manage to stall the tractor a few times when I fed too much material into the mulcher at once, but overall I was extremely impressed with what it handled.
