Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has called for the Kennedy Center to be shut down after sharing footage of a large piece of the ceiling crashing into the building’s main lobby.

Lutnick said deteriorating roofing, concrete supports, and steel had created unsafe conditions and warned that visitors could have been killed. The incident comes as the Kennedy Center faces financial trouble, a possible temporary closure for major renovations and an ongoing legal battle over proposals to add President Donald Trump’s name to the building.
