China will assume the BRICS chairmanship in 2027 and host the grouping’s 19th summit, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry. President Xi Jinping described the bloc’s first 20 years through three phrases: “self-reliance and self-strengthening,” “standing together through thick and thin” and “abundant achievements.” Beijing says it will work with all members to build consensus and create a shared future as BRICS enters what Xi called its third “golden decade.” The announcement places China at the centre of the grouping’s next phase following the 18th summit in New Delhi.
