President Donald Trump says the Houthis contacted Washington and indicated they do not want a confrontation with the United States, while claiming Iran was “probably” behind attacks on Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline. Trump said he spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and expects the situation to be resolved. Saudi Arabia temporarily shut the strategic pipeline after drone attacks, which Riyadh said originated from Iraq. The pipeline provides an alternative route for Saudi crude exports, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. Trump made the remarks during his Ireland visit, where he also discussed relations with Saudi Arabia, Iran and the Houthis.
