In this episode:
We knew there was a second well on our land when we bought the property, but there was one big problem — we had no idea what was actually happening down there.

The land was incredibly wild when we bought it, and although we knew there were two wells, we never properly inspected or cleaned them before buying. The second well was full of muck, incredibly low and completely unknown territory.

Eventually, we decided it was time to find out what we had.

The only problem was… how do you actually clean a well like this?

Luke thought he could get it done in a day. I wasn't quite so convinced!

Over the first two days we tried different ideas, made a few homemade contraptions, moved an awful lot of mud and discovered several ways that definitely weren't going to work.

And underneath all of that was a much bigger question:

Would this well actually be a reliable source of water?

This is Part 1 of our four-day well-cleaning adventure here on our off-grid farm in rural Portugal.

There is still a LOT of muck to remove, and we're nowhere near the bottom yet…

Part 2 continues the well clean-up and the search for the bottom.

If you enjoy watching real off-grid life, renovating old land, building from scratch and all the unexpected jobs that come with creating a life in the countryside, we'd love you to join us.
