At least 29 students have died after a fire tore through two schools and the surrounding neighbourhood in Bukavu, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Hundreds of homes were also destroyed, leaving thousands of families without shelter. A day later, survivors are returning to the ruins, some searching for anything they can save, others already rebuilding.
Many homes in Bukavu are built close together using timber and other flammable materials, making fires difficult to contain.
Authorities have declared three days of mourning, but survivors say they cannot wait for help and need somewhere to sleep now.
