‘BRICS Revolution For Global South’: Ramaphosa Challenges Allies To BREAK From Old Trade Model

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned the expanded BRICS grouping against reproducing the unequal economic model that has kept developing countries dependent on exporting raw commodities. Addressing the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi, Ramaphosa said resource-rich African countries cannot continue supplying the minerals required by future industries while technology, manufacturing and higher-value production remain concentrated elsewhere. His message presented a challenge to BRICS itself: creating an alternative to the existing global economic order will mean little if poorer members remain sources of raw materials while wealth and industrial power accumulate in other economies.
