Vladimir Putin has claimed that more than 30,000 sanctions have been imposed against Russia—almost twice as many as those targeting every other country in the world combined. Addressing the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi, the Russian president accused governments of turning international competition into coercion. He cited attacks on industrial and logistics infrastructure, attempts to block transport corridors, the seizure of maritime vessels and threats of secondary sanctions against countries pursuing independent policies. The figures were presented by Putin and were not independently verified in the address. His wider message to BRICS governments was clear: economic restrictions are no longer being used only against Russia, but as instruments of pressure against any country refusing to follow another power’s interests.
