‘GOP BETRAYED NEW YORK AFTER 9/11!’: Chuck Schumer Goes Nuclear On Republicans; ‘George Bush Said…’

Chuck Schumer used the 25th anniversary of 9/11 to reopen one of Washington’s bitterest post-attack battles, accusing national Republicans of resisting aid for New York even as the city struggled to recover from the destruction of the World Trade Center.

Schumer recalled personally asking President George W. Bush for an additional $20 billion for New York and said Bush immediately replied, “You got it.” But he claimed conservatives in the White House and Congress later fought the funding, forcing years of political battles before New York ultimately secured billions for rebuilding, transportation, security and victims’ support.
