Russia is signalling a possible new venue for the next round of Ukraine peace talks, with Moscow saying Abu Dhabi could be considered once substantive negotiations begin. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov praised the UAE’s willingness to host the talks while insisting Russia wants a permanent settlement rather than what he described as Kyiv’s push for a temporary ceasefire. The comments come after Donald Trump’s peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held more than three hours of talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow before travelling to Kyiv for meetings with Volodymyr Zelensky. Peskov’s remarks could mark a fresh diplomatic opening as Washington pushes for progress toward ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
