The Panama-flagged New Andros was struck in Iraqi territorial waters around 6 a.m., according to Iraqi port officials cited by Reuters. Rescue boats managed to extinguish the blaze, while all 22 crew members were reportedly safe. The strike comes amid a wider escalation involving US and Iranian forces, with several merchant vessels reportedly coming under “disabling fire” in the Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
