Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier is pushing back against US President Donald Trump’s threat to block its aircraft from the American market unless the company builds planes in the United States.
Bombardier says the criticism overlooks its significant American footprint. The company employs nearly 3,500 people in the US, works with around 2,800 American suppliers across 47 states and spends more than $2.5 billion annually with US suppliers.
The company also says American workers are involved in manufacturing aircraft components, including wings in Texas and flight-control components in California.
Trump has argued that Bombardier benefits heavily from the US market, which accounts for roughly half of its sales, and has demanded greater aircraft manufacturing in America.
The dispute comes amid escalating trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa, while legal and political questions are emerging over whether the US can block Bombardier aircraft that have already received FAA approval.
