NEPAL FLOODS: In an emotional eyewitness account, Dinesh Adhikari, a businessman from Betrawati in Rasuwa, recalls the terrifying moment floodwaters suddenly surged through the market.
Adhikari says he tried to warn local authorities, shopkeepers and residents after receiving information about the approaching flood. But the river suddenly entered the market, forcing him to run uphill for his life.
He recalls seeing people, schoolchildren and traders desperately trying to reach higher ground, while vehicles and bridges were swept away. He also remembers hearing people inside vehicles crying “Save us, save us” as the raging river carried them away.
Adhikari says the disaster destroyed his business built over 32 years, along with homes, vehicles, cash, gold and stock.
The interview also highlights the emotional impact of the rescue of Chandrika Shrestha, who was found alive after being trapped for 11 days in flood-hit Betrawati. Her rescue has given families fresh hope that more missing people could still be found alive.
