What happens when a simple love of plants grows into something much bigger?
In this episode of Onlyplants, I visit Mama Treehouse in Bangkok, Thailand to meet Mama and her family and discover the story behind this incredible plant-growing operation.
Mama Treehouse began in 2020 with plants growing on a small home balcony. Today, that passion has expanded into around 15 greenhouses, a huge collection of rare plants, propagation rooms, breeding projects and a thriving international plant community.
But what makes Mama Treehouse special isn't just the plants. It's the family behind them.
Mama's daughter Peary shares how she watched her mother's passion grow, while her son Peak explains the delicate balance between being part of the family and running the business — especially when Mama doesn't always want to sell her favorite plants!
We also explore some truly beautiful and unusual plants, including rare Monsteras, Philodendrons, Anthuriums, Begonias and Mama's own hybrid seedlings.
One of the highlights is Mama's breeding program, where carefully selected parent plants are crossed to create new hybrids. We also take a look at their growing systems, fertigation setup, mother plants, propagation areas, plants prepared for export, and Mama's private collection — including plants that are strictly NOT FOR SALE!
And perhaps the biggest lesson from Mama is a simple one:
Good plants start with good genetics, but beautiful plants also require patience, selection and a whole lot of love.
