After weeks of testimony, emotional evidence and intense debate over Lindsay Clancy’s mental state, the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict — bringing one of the most closely watched trials in the country to a dramatic end.
Billy Bush and Hot Mics were live throughout an extraordinary final day as the Lindsay Clancy trial moved from a reported 11–1 jury impasse to an emergency appeal before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court — and ultimately a mistrial.
The drama centered on one holdout juror and a jury communication that Lindsay Clancy’s defense argued raised a much bigger issue: was the juror refusing to follow the court’s instructions on reasonable doubt and criminal responsibility?
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington fought to have Judge William Sullivan conduct a further inquiry into the juror. When Sullivan declined and prepared to declare a mistrial, Reddington made one final move — seeking emergency intervention from Massachusetts’ highest court.

Massachusetts criminal defense attorney Joe Krowski joins Billy from outside Plymouth County Superior Court to explain Reddington’s extraordinary legal strategy and what the Supreme Judicial Court could do. But the Lindsay Clancy case is not over.
The court sets September 29 for a status conference, trial assignment and consideration of a Rule 25 motion, while the possibility of another trial now hangs over a case that has already sparked a national conversation about postpartum mental illness, criminal responsibility, psychiatric treatment and the limits of the justice system.
