An entitled company owner demanded that our crew get our pumps off “his land” after accusing us of overcharging him. There was just one problem — those pumps were the only thing keeping his construction site dry.

My boss warned him exactly what would happen if the temporary dewatering system was removed. He even offered to keep the pumps running until the replacement contractor was ready. The company owner refused, ordered us to take EVERYTHING off the property, and put it in writing.

So we did exactly what he asked.

Days later, heavy rain hit, groundwater started rising, and the construction site flooded. Emergency pumping, damaged subgrade, project delays, lawyers, insurance claims, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses followed — and then the contractor tried to blame us for the disaster.

Unfortunately for him, my boss had saved every email, change order, job log, warning, and photo.
