We Flew to Minnesota’s Most Remote Corner

We flew our airplane to the Northwest Angle, Minnesota, one of the most isolated communities in the Lower 48. ✈️

This tiny piece of America is cut off from the rest of the U.S. by land. To drive there, you have to cross into Canada and then back into the United States.

Flying there wasn’t exactly simple either. The only runway we could use was a private 2,800-foot grass strip, getting permission took weeks, and reaching it meant crossing roughly 30 nautical miles of open water.

Once we landed, we got to experience what life is actually like in this remote corner of Minnesota, where fewer than 100 people live year-round, grocery runs involve an international border, and even getting the mail takes some planning.

This is State #11 of our 50-state flying adventure. 🇺🇸
