Train slams into car at crossing

A major collision between a VIA Rail passenger train and a vehicle has shut down traffic in the city's southwest. CTV's Kimberley Fowler reports that passenger Darren McEwen smelled a strong odour from the brakes as the train rapidly slowed down. Police have closed Fallowfield Road in both directions between Holitman Drive and Woodroffe Avenue while emergency crews respond to the crash. Viewer video from the scene shows significant damage to a black vehicle stopped near the train station intersection.
