What if the problem isn't that you lack discipline...
What if you've simply trained your brain to prefer instant rewards over meaningful effort?
Every time you feel bored and open Instagram, feel uncomfortable and escape, or wait for motivation before starting, you're reinforcing a behavioural pattern.
The good news?
Your brain can learn new patterns.
In this video, we break down 5 practical rules to help you gradually make studying feel less resistant — and eventually make the process of getting better feel rewarding.
🧠 THE 5 RULES
1. When you feel the urge to escape, wait 5 minutes.
Create a gap between IMPULSE → ACTION and train yourself to experience an urge without immediately obeying it.
2. Reward the work, not the escape.
Train your brain to associate EFFORT → REWARD, instead of using entertainment to escape difficult work.
3. Stop counting hours. Start collecting wins.
Don't just measure how long you studied. Measure what you actually accomplished — MCQs solved, topics recalled, answers written and concepts understood.
4. Start for just 5 minutes.
Don't wait for motivation. If you've scheduled it, start. You're training your brain to associate INTENTION → ACTION.
5. Don't try to become a monk.
You don't need extreme dopamine detoxes, 12-hour study days or zero entertainment. Build discipline gradually through small effort → small success → reward → repetition.
The goal isn't to eliminate dopamine.
The goal isn't to become a productivity machine.
The goal is to make disciplined behaviour normal.
Over time, you want to move from:
Boredom → phone
Difficulty → escape
Stress → scrolling
No motivation → procrastination
to:
Boredom → tolerate
Difficulty → engage
Stress → regulate
Scheduled → start
Effort → progress
Because UPSC preparation isn't only about completing the syllabus.
You're training the brain that has to perform on examination day.
And that means developing something more important than motivation:
TEMPERAMENT.
📌 If you're preparing for UPSC CSE, use these rules one at a time. Don't try to transform your life overnight.
Start with one rule.
Practice it for a week.
Then add the next.
1% better. Repeated consistently.
That's how you build a brain that doesn't constantly need to fight itself.
