At least eight people have died after a passenger ferry with over 250 people on board capsized off the coast of Northern Cyprus.

The Turkish Cypriot authorities have detained the ship's captain and seven crew members, and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has said "every aspect" of the incident will be investigated.

The vessel, which capsized around two kilometres from the coast, has been confirmed as the Filo Jet, one of several shuttle sea services linking Northern Cyprus to Turkey.
