Nepal Floods: Powerful Trishuli River Surge Sweeps Away Key Suspension Bridge

A powerful surge in Nepal’s Trishuli River has swept away a key suspension bridge, disrupting movement between communities in Gorkha and Dhading districts.

The Chandi Suspension Bridge gave way on Sunday morning after rapidly rising, high-velocity floodwaters placed extreme pressure on its structure. The bridge had provided an important pedestrian connection between two rural municipalities in Dhading district.

According to local authorities, the force of the river current compromised the bridge before it was swept away completely. Another suspension bridge in Dhading was also damaged by the raging Trishuli River.

Authorities have warned that the continuing river surge remains a serious threat to riverside communities, roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure along the corridor.

The destruction of the Chandi Suspension Bridge has once again highlighted the vulnerability of Nepal’s vital connectivity links during extreme flooding, while local authorities face the difficult task of protecting communities and maintaining essential movement.
