Canada is pushing back against President Donald Trump’s latest salvo in the escalating trade war. Canadian Industry Minister Mélanie Joly has rejected Trump’s suggestion that the US could rename Lake Ontario “Lake America,” saying Canadians will continue to call it Lake Ontario. Joly defended Canada’s historic connection to the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River, saying the waterways have been part of the foundation of the country for thousands of years.
