Sliman Mansour, one of the defining figures of contemporary Palestinian art, has died at 79. Born in Birzeit in 1947, he spent more than five decades painting the landscapes, people and symbols of Palestine. His work, including the iconic Camel of Hardships, became closely associated with Palestinian identity, memory and steadfastness. Mansour also helped shape the Palestinian art movement through collective and cultural initiatives.
