Lanterns Episode 2 looks like the week the show finally paid the fans: Hal Jordan in the suit, the oath, the lantern, a prison planet, and Sinestro in the flesh. But watch Trust Fall like a detective instead of a fan and something else is going on. This episode is a fair-play mystery, the old Sherlock Holmes contract where every clue is shown to your face, and the clues it dealt are not pointing at who killed Hal Jordan.
I'm breaking down the hand the episode dealt while everyone was cheering at the suit: the ring that dies in the first 10 minutes, the 14 species that can pass for human, a hospital that is quietly wrong, alien detection tech wired into a small-town football field, and a corpse missing the one object that knows its bearer. Then I'm putting two calls on the record: who Antaan really is, straight out of Green Lantern
#25 and the Sector 666 massacre, and what episode 2 quietly did to John Stewart in its final scene.
There's also a little something extra at the end. Watch the whole hand.
Inside this breakdown:
The generous hand: everything episode 2 delivered, from the oath to Sinestro, and the 1985 Alan Moore deep cut hiding in Hal's password
The clues face up: the fair-play case the show is building in Rushville, dealt one card at a time
Who hunts the Manhunters: the Sector 666 story, my Antaan call on the record, and the colder question the last scene asks about John Stewart, plus the verdict and where Trust Fall lands on the Know-It-All Index
