A Welsh aerospace startup, B2Space, has successfully tested its innovative balloon-based rocket launch system, known as a "rockoon," in Spain's Canary Islands. The system uses a high-altitude balloon to carry a rocket more than 21 kilometers above Earth before ignition. The milestone test validated key launch technologies and marks a major step toward cheaper and more flexible satellite launches. B2Space now plans a larger test in 2026 and aims to cross the Kármán Line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Could balloon-assisted launches transform the future of the space industry?
