Thousands of young students are learning how to safely navigate the transit system ahead of their very first day of kindergarten. CTV's Kimberley Johnson profiles the annual First Rider Day program, designed to help families feel comfortable sending their children to class. Ottawa Student Transportation Authority general manager Jennifer Borrel-Benoit says the event teaches kids that the driver is a safe person and shows them how to properly secure their backpacks. More than 55,000 local students will rely on yellow buses to travel to schools across the region when classes resume next week.
