After weeks of travelling, trails, breakdowns and long days on the road, we were ready for a few quieter days—and Oregon turned out to be exactly what we needed.
We started in the beautiful Willamette Valley at Crowley House Flower Farm, operated by Carol’s sister Beth and her husband Jason, along with her brother Keith and Caitlin.
We spent a couple of days catching up on laundry and a few of the everyday jobs that pile up while travelling, enjoying meals together in the garden and simply having some much-needed time with family. The boys also got plenty of help from their Uncle Jason sorting through a few mechanical issues before we continued north.
From there, we visited another of Carol’s sisters, Sarah, and her husband Nate, at their beautiful farm near Silverton.
Then it was time to get back on the road and head for one of our favourite places—the Oregon Coast.
We drove out onto one of the sections of beach where vehicles are still allowed, found a beautiful spot by the ocean and cooked an incredible seafood dinner over the fire as the evening settled in around us.
There’s something pretty special about being able to pull onto the beach, light a fire, cook a great meal and spend the evening beside the Pacific Ocean.
From there we continued north along the Oregon coast, eventually making our way toward Astoria.
This stretch of the journey was a good reminder that travelling isn’t always about how far you can go or how much you can fit into a day. Sometimes the best moments come when you slow down, spend time with family, eat good food and simply enjoy wherever you happen to be.
