India Moves Against Hafiz Saeed Over Pahalgam Terror Attack | NIA Prepares Summons Through Pakistan

India is moving forward with legal proceedings against Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed in connection with the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is preparing to have a court summons served on Saeed in Lahore through diplomatic channels. According to the report, the summons is expected to be routed through Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The development follows a non-bailable warrant issued by a special NIA court in Jammu against Saeed. The NIA’s supplementary charge sheet has named him as an accused and alleged that the conspiracy behind the Pahalgam attack was planned from Pakistan.

The April 22, 2025 attack killed 26 people, including tourists and a local resident, according to the report.

Saeed is based in Pakistan, and Indian investigators have told the court that securing his physical presence in India is not currently possible.

The serving of the summons represents another step in India’s legal proceedings. It could also become relevant to any future attempt to pursue a trial in absentia, subject to the applicable legal requirements and court proceedings.
