Maharashtra FDA Cracks Down: 13 Food Licences Suspended Over Safety Violations

Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licences of 13 establishments across the state following a special food safety inspection drive. The action comes after inspections uncovered alleged serious hygiene and food safety violations, including pest infestations, poor sanitation, improper food storage and unsafe food-handling practices. Among the establishments facing action is a McDonald’s outlet in South Mumbai. FDA officials allegedly found live cockroaches, uncalibrated refrigeration equipment, inadequate pest-control measures, food waste on the kitchen floor and other sanitation concerns. The Bombay Presidency Radio Club was also among the establishments whose licence was suspended. Officials reportedly found live flies and dead cockroaches, peeling paint and plaster above food preparation areas, chemicals stored near food and other alleged hygiene violations.
The Maharashtra FDA said it inspected 89 hotels, restaurants and eateries, issuing improvement notices to 71 establishments while suspending the licences of 13.
