LGBTQ+ monument opens near Parliament Hill

A new national monument known as Thunderhead is now officially open on Wellington Street to recognize historic discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in Canada. CTV's Kimberley Fowler reports that Gov. Gen. Louise Arbour delivered remarks honouring the thousands of civil servants and military members fired during the Cold War. The project is a collaboration between the LGBT Purge Fund, Canadian Heritage and the National Capital Commission, funded by a class-action lawsuit settlement. The all-Canadian design team based in Winnipeg created the space to celebrate the resilience of those who continue to fight for equality.
