Did China’s electronic warfare capabilities play a role in the mysterious four-day blackout of the USS Benfold in the South China Sea? The U.S. Navy says the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer suffered an engineering casualty involving its generators on July 24, 2026, leaving the warship without normal power for four days. The crew reportedly lost air conditioning, toilets, galley services and access to some potable water before the destroyer was towed to Subic Bay, Philippines, for repairs. But the location raises a bigger question: could China’s advanced electronic warfare capabilities have played any role?
