Russia Downs U.S. Plane In Alaska? Chartered Plane Carrying 8 Crashes Near Remote Radar Site
A charter plane carrying eight people crashed Thursday near a remote radar site in western Alaska, triggering a search and rescue operation by authorities. The Cessna 441 departed Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and was heading toward Cape Newenham when it crashed west of the Cape Newenham radar site at around 12:15 p.m. local time, according to the FAA. Two pilots and six passengers were aboard the aircraft, officials said, although their conditions were not immediately known. The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center launched a response after receiving reports of an aircraft incident. The NTSB will lead the investigation with FAA assistance.
