Can Watching Reels Reduce Your Brain’s Focus Activity? | WION Podcast

Why is it so difficult to stop scrolling once a short video catches your attention? A new brain imaging study found that enjoyable short videos were associated with reduced activity in regions involved in attention, behavioural monitoring and cognitive control. Researchers observed changes in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex while participants freely watched short clips. The findings may help explain why highly engaging content can make stopping feel harder, but they do not prove that Reels or Shorts permanently damage the brain.
