India-Japan Strategic Partnership: Koizumi Backs Stronger Defence Cooperation In Indo-Pacific

Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi has called for a rapid strengthening of India-Japan defence cooperation, saying the partnership has yet to reach the level it should.

Speaking during his India visit, Koizumi highlighted the increasingly complex and uncertain Indo-Pacific security environment and stressed the indispensable role of defence cooperation in the strategic partnership between New Delhi and Tokyo. His visit comes as both countries seek deeper maritime security, defence technology and strategic cooperation.

Koizumi also pointed to the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to strengthening the bilateral relationship. The two countries are already expanding cooperation in defence equipment, technology and maritime security, including their first defence equipment co-development project.
