Come thrift and style with me! Today we're hunting for beautiful secondhand finds, bringing them home to style, and tackling a DIY I've been wanting to try for a LONG time: giving my flat, white-painted brick fireplace the look of limewash—without stripping off the paint!
I actually went searching online for a tutorial for this exact problem because I regretted painting our brick fireplace white years ago. I didn't like the red brick, but over time I wished I'd chosen limewash instead so the brick still had variation, dimension and aged character. The problem? Once brick has been painted, getting the paint off is basically just....no.
I couldn't find a tutorial where anyone had done this! So I decided to blaze my own trail and come up with a faux limewash technique using just two watered-down paint colors. I'm SO happy with how it turned out! The brick is still light and neutral, but now it has the warmth, depth and imperfect variation I felt it was missing.
If you have an already-painted brick fireplace and have wondered how to make painted brick look like you limewashed it instead, without stripping the paint, I hope this gives you some inspiration to try it yourself!
