*MY WILD HOLM WINTER SPECIAL* — Off Grid Living on our remote Canadian island changes completely when we return to find nearly three feet of snow covering the homestead.

Our long-awaited off grid winter return begins with a new enclosed trailer, a Yamaha snowmobile, a Pelican sled and a journey north as dry roads disappear into deep snow and colder country. Reaching the frozen lake is only the beginning. ❄️

At the winter cabin, simply moving around becomes difficult. Without snowshoes we sink deep, power is limited, the snowmobile has to work in conditions we have never faced here before, and heavy wet snow is pressing hard on the buildings and off grid solar system.

Yet the Canadian wilderness is breathtaking. The lake is a clean canvas of white, the island is almost completely silent, and Opal is in her element. 🐾 This is the winter version of remote island living we had dreamed about — beautiful, demanding, and full of questions about what the snow has done while we were away.
