A former White Helmets volunteer, Mohammed Ghmeira, died after an alleged beating in police custody in Latakia, despite officers being warned about his haemophilia.
The case has spurred protests and heightened scrutiny of the new authorities, as a Syrian rights group cites 19 testimonies of deaths in custody and abuse, including electric shocks.
