Emergency crews in Indonesia are delivering aid to communities devastated by a powerful earthquake near the island of Flores. At least 53 people have died and around 5,000 are displaced, many sleeping under trees or in makeshift tents while they wait for tarpaulins, food, water and children’s supplies. Hospitals are operating out of tents and the region faces a two‑week emergency period to coordinate support. The disaster worsens hardship in one of Indonesia’s poorest provinces.
